In some sense, users were awaiting the Moto Razr to be introduced to Sprint Nextel in one form or another. Although the Stature i9 does not have the Razr name, it has all the impressions of the Razr handset. It has a thin boxy contour taking you back to the look on the V3. Along with that, the glossy skin, touch controls, extended external display and flat keypad looks, the Stature i9 looks an awful lot like the Razr2 V9m series.
Clearly, the i9 is from the Razr family tree in terms of style and form factor. And it has to be said that this is one of the most style-laden phones in Nextel’s line-up. Standing at 4.1 inches in height, and 2.1 inches wide by 0.59 inches thick, the i9 phone slips right in – whether it’s a bag or your pocket. It feels sturdy and comfy when you hold it with a soft touch material along with the shiny front. However, you would need to be careful not to smudge and smear the front face with your fingerprints.
The phone is equipped with a 262,000 color external display that is huge and brilliantly vibrant at two inches and 320x240 pixels. This Touch Sensitive external display matches current application as well. The graphics are bright and sharp and so are the colors. One neat thing is that you can navigate through the phone’s entire menu and its apps without even opening the i9. You may add your own wallpaper, but the backlighting is fairly short and you would have to light it again by clicking on the volume rocker.
Features
The i9 comes equipped with a 600-contact phone book, which is great for business professionals who need to network a lot. You can store up to seven entries per contact along with an email address. This phone is Speakerphone enabled for handsfree function.
The i9 supports 256 MB Built-In Memory and comes with a 8 GB Expandable Memory Card – virtually limitless memory. You can also group your contacts by paring them with Polyphonic Ringtones. Then you have the Voice-driven Menus that let you select menus just by the sound of your voice. As far as languages go, English, French and Spanish are supported on the i9. The phone comes with Customizable Graphics and you can download them too. Downloadable MP3 Ringtones are also supported on the Moto i9 and it offers Data Download Speeds of 75 Kbps (WiDen). This phone works on Java Application Platform and is compatible with iDEN 800/900 Networks.
T9 Predictive Text Entry enables the i9 to automatically complete words for you while texting and typing. The phone comes preloaded with Java Titles, but you can download more if you wish.
Openwave 7.2 Browser offers Mobile Web Browsing for your Internet requirements; Nextel offers Data Service Pack Add-on Plan Feature for Network users. Along with other core features, you also have the Text Messaging (SMS) option enabled with Data Service Pack from Nextel. The i9 is also TTY Compatible and M3 and T4 rated, hearing aid compatible device. In addition, MIDI (64 Chords), AAC, MP3, and WMA Format Ringtone Types are supported on the i9 Black.
The high-end features on the i9 include Bluetooth, an application manager, USB mass storage, PC synching, voice recorder, voice dialing and commands, and access to Sprint Mobile email. You also have a GPS app, however it is utilized for figuring out your position by latitude and longitude and not mapping or directional information.
Being a Nextel phone, the Moto i9 supports Direct Connect PTT service, which includes International Direct Connect, Direct Talk – out of network PTT-chat – and Group Connect. This is basically a Walkie-talkie service supported on Nextel’s telecom service. NextMail allows you to send voice messages to email addresses, while Direct Send can transmit your contact info to other cell phones. There is also a second line service provided by Nextel. You can use this feature to add a second line to your phone with a separate number.

The 3.1-megapixel camera is capable of taking photos in seven different resolutions, all the way from 320x240 to 2,048x1,536 pixels. You also have optional editing tools like exposure control, two quality settings, brightness, white balance, self timer, autofocus, macro mode, color tones, two shutter sounds, and a 8x digital zoom – pretty thorough camera that offers clarity and lots of details all at the same time. You won’t need to invest in a separate camera if you have the Moto i9.
