Product Description
The 5310 Xpress Design
The 5310 XpressMusic is Nokia’s first foray into the ultra slim phone categories. The phone is less than half an inch thick, and this makes the phone ridiculously easy to carry around. Thankfully, the thin design has not compromised on phone durability, and at three ounces, the phone has a satisfying weight to it.
The 5310 has a two inch screen (320 x 240 pixels) which is capable of displaying 16 million colors, and as such, is one of the more attractive screens on any phone to date. The display is bright and detailed, and the backgrounds and colors have been beautifully balanced. The screen is flanked by a dedicated music strip on its left side, which has three buttons (next song, previous song, and play/pause). The right side carries the volume rocker, and the power button sits on top of the phone, next to the headphone jack.
Navigation on this phone is well designed, with a central four way toggle combined with an OK button. There is the standard Send/End pair of keys, and two user-defined ‘soft’ keys, which at default are set to the address book and music player. The numeric keypad takes up the rest of the phone, and with raised, slightly grooved buttons, makes this phone easy to operate.
Music and Entertainment Features
The 5310 is first and foremost a music phone, and Nokia kept this well in mind while designing it. The music player controls are simple and user friendly, and the phone can play almost any audio file you choose. Supported formats include MP3, WMA, and AAC, among others. The display allows you to scroll album art, and there are several other capabilities as well, including playlist support, shuffle, and repeat mode. Possibly the best part about it is the equalizer, that comes with preloaded settings such as rock, speech, and pop, and can even be manually edited. With a pair of headphones, this phone is capable of entertainment system sound quality, with music levels clear at every frequency. The phone also supports radio, so if FM is what you want, this phone will happily comply.
Additional Functions
The 5310 readily interfaces with a PC as well, through its micro USB port. The phone is automatically recognized when connected to a computer, and moving music and data to the phone is as simple as drag and drop. The contact book can also be synchronized and updated via the PC, which makes keeping your phone up to date a breeze.
The phone book is massive, holding up to 2000 contacts. Each contact has space for five phone numbers, email addresses, work and home addresses, and can be personalized with nicknames and job titles as well. Contacts can be sorted into groups as well, and individual ringtones, along with picture ID can be assigned to contacts as well. You can also create custom ringer profiles for various situations.
The usual features like voice memo, alarm, calendar, voice activated dialing, games, customizable graphics etc are all present too.
Camera
The 5310 also comes with a 2.0 megapixel camera (1600 x 1200 max resolution) which takes JPEG pictures in several different resolutions. Other options also include white balance, color effects, and 4X digital zoom. There is also a self timer, and a burst mode for multiple, quick shots. Colors and image quality are of quite a high level as well. The camera also has a video mode - 15 frames per second, which allows you to film in two different resolution settings.
Messaging and browsing
Secondary features such as the WAP internet browser and the display have also been polished till they gleam. The browser is intuitive and simple to use, and allows for a range of abilities such as email support, instant messaging (text and multimedia messaging too), and the like. The display is brilliant, and supporting 16 million colors, makes image quality on this phone extraordinarily high.
The 5310 Red is also Bluetooth (v2.0) ready and allows for connectivity between compatible Bluetooth devices (hands free car kits, phone to phone connectivity, etc)
The XpressMusic, following in a long line of successful Nokia phones, has all the advantages of a music player with none of the disadvantages of size. Sound clarity in general is excellent, and the speaker has been well constructed to give lifelike sound quality. All in all, if music is your thing, this is a must have phone.
