Design
Nokia has always been a leader in the cellular phone industry, and looking at the 6301, it’s not all that hard to see why. Slim, pretty and oh so functional, this is a fantastically designed phone for those who value easy technology. 3.2 ounces and 4.2 inches are the maximum dimensions, which make this an easy phone to carry around, whether in a pocket or in a bag.
The screen that greets you is a marvel of technology: 2 inches across (320 x 240 pixels) and supporting 16.7 million colors; this phone greets you with a bright and cheery display, which is customizable as well. The screen is followed by the standard set of keys one has become used to finding on a Nokia, which include the Send/End pair, the two soft or user defined keys, and a four way navigation key combined with a central OK button. The standard numeric keypad at the bottom completes the image.
There is a 2.5mm headphone jack and a micro USB port built in as well, which gives this phone an edge in functionality as well.
Communication and Connectivity Features
This phone supports a variety of communication software and technology, such as Bluetooth, EDGE, and of course, Java. Bluetooth presently runs on version 2.0, and as such, has a number of preset profiles for connectivity in order to enable easy communication with other/compatible Bluetooth devices. Connection is simple and straightforward, and the menu settings are intuitive as well.

This is a beautiful feature if you’re one of those who call only a chosen few, and goes well with the overall usability of this phone.
There are several rate plans to be chosen from as well, and with just a simple call to T-Mobile, they’ll be able to direct you to a plan that suits your phone usage pattern as well. There are add-on voice plans, messaging plans (including unlimited messaging plans) and web plans etc.
Entertainment Features
The 6301 will not disappoint you with its entertainment features as well. It comes with a MP3 player that plays various types of music files for you – mp3, AAC, WMA etc. If you like, you can also tune in to the FM radio. And yes, you do have a variety of 64-chord polyphonic ringtones available (including group ringers). Further, you get a number of games (pre-loaded as well as downloadable games that work on Java platform). Customizable graphics and multi-media messaging are the other fun features on the Nokia 6301 (silver).
Usability
The phone first and foremost, is a phone. With a large and easy to read keypad, backlit in blue, dialing is easy regardless of whether or not you look at the phone. The keys are large and slightly raised for ease of use, and the simple and intuitive four-way navigation key increases the overall simplicity and design of the phone.
You also have the standard features supported. These include alarm, calendar, calculator, vibrate mode and speaker phone. Moreover, you can also take good quality photos using the 2 Mega pixels camera that is built-in into the 6301.
The 6301 is one of those phones you just have to own. Its one of the simplest phones out there, has a large and well designed screen, is brilliantly easy to use, can connect via several different types of protocols, the list goes on.
