Palm Treo 700p design
The designers of the Palm Treo 700p sure do believe that size does matter. At 6.4 ounces, it is one of the bulkier smart phones available today. The phone has a fully QWERTY keypad, a touch screen display of about 2.1 inches with a resolution of 320x 320 pixels, and a stylus to navigate through the phone options and menus. The keys on the keypad are well spaced, and hard, so you can type easily, in spite of the obvious bulk.
The phone runs on the Palm OS 5.4 system, which Palm users will be well acquainted with, and for first timers also, it does not need much getting used to. The phone comes with an in-built memory of 128 MB and a Micro SD compatible slot for expanding the memory. You also have a 2.5 mm stereo headset jack, a Micro USB port, a camera dedicated key, volume toggle, and a voice activated dialing key on the sides of the phone body for your convenience. The main menu on your Palm Treo 700p is quite comprehensive, and you have an icon for almost everything. Though these are not very large, but you will not have a problem using them with your fingers either. Though it is mainly a business phone, but there are many other features that you will enjoy, when you’re not working.
Easy phone navigation
The Palm Treo Pro 700p gives you three ways to navigate around the phone menus and options. For those accustomed to the conventional navigation keypad, you have a QWERTY keypad. The 2.1 inches touch screen can be operated with the Stylus that comes with the phone, or with your fingers only.
Bluetooth and Infra-red enabled
The phone supports Bluetooth version 1.2, so you can connect the phone to other Bluetooth devices and accessories. You can even transfer files like pictures, videos, music etc from your phone to other Bluetooth phones. The 2.5 mm headset jack supports headsets and headphones you can use to talk or listen to music. There is also an infra-red port you can use for connecting to other compatible devices.
PC synchronization
You can connect your phone to your PC to transfer contacts, pictures, music etc easily with the Hot-sync cable that comes in the box. All you have to do is connect the cable to your phone and PC, and then your phone has easy instructions to take care of the rest.
Voice features
The phone supports voice memos and voice commands (requires special plan). You can set reminders in your phone in your own voice, and instruct your phone to make calls, or open a certain application just by using simple voice commands.
1.3 megapixels camera
The 1.3 megapixels digital camera with 2x digital zoom gives you great picture quality. The camera has a resolution of 1280x 1024 pixels max, so your pictures are always clear. The camera also supports video capture in QCIF quality, with the length depending only on the size of your memory card. You can even create albums in your phone for all your pictures and videos.
Internet connectivity
The Palm Treo 700p gives you great broadband like speeds to download data and surf the internet. You get up to 700 kbps with EVDO and up to 130 kbps with 1xRTT. The phone also supports 3G data speeds (wherever available).
You also have the option of a fully HTML web browser so you have cookies, bookmarks, SSL etc for a complete PC like web experience. For email, you have Pocket Outlook that supports POP, IMAP, AMOP and ESTMP protocols, so you can keep track of all your emails from your phone. You can even read and edit your mail attachments in Word, Excel and PowerPoint, and PDF documents (read-only).
Entertainment
Even though the Palm Treo 700p is mainly a business phone it does has enough entertainment features, to give any phone a run for its money. For music addicts, you have Pocket Tunes software that plays MP3 and other formats, as well as FM radio support. You can also enjoy streaming multimedia at high speeds with the media player.
You also have the usual ringtones, customizable graphics, ringer profiles, Picture caller IDs and games.
