Product Description

Design

A product of Huawei technologies, the USB stick features a swivel design so that you can fold it and not have the USB stick come out from the side of the laptop. The LED on the face of the device turns green when it detects a signal and when it gets connected it turns blue. The SIM card holder is on the back and the microSD expansion slot is on the left spine. The slot accepts up to 8 GB cards thus enabling the Web Connect to be used as a removable storage device also.

Support

When the Web Connect is first connected to the laptop, it automatically installs the T – Mobile Connection Manager Software. The software detects the best available web connection and also tracks the usage for the benefit of the user. In the Broadband mode you can use the program send, receive, forward and save text messages from the PC. The device works with Windows XP, Vista and Mac.

Connectivity

The Web Connect offers tri – band 3G connectivity. It means you can use it on compatible networks overseas. The download speed is 600 kbps to 1 Mbps in T – Mobile’s HSPDA network. However, if there is no 3G coverage, it can also work on GPRS/EDGE networks. Needless to say, the USB stick can also work in Wi-Fi hotspot as you get free access to T – Mobile hotspots. The connection Manager can be used to switch between laptop’s Wi-Fi connection and the 3G connection on the carrier’s network. The Connection Manager is also equipped with a T – Mobile Hotspot locator which helps to find a local Wi-Fi connection.

The USB stick can be used to send and receive test messages. But this is true for Windows environment only. The modem is gaining popularity as the product is a boon for laptop users. They can connect to the internet on the go. The idea of mobile surfing has a great appeal for youngsters and working professionals alike. As long as you are in the T – Mobile service area you can get connected anytime. You can download music, photos and other content at your will as the device supports 8 GB cards. No need of worrying of using up the device memory and falling short of available memory space.

Performance

The modem supports T – Mobile data plans but it is also available for purchase without any of the service plans. The USB stick is definitely upgradeable and many more hi – tech features are already on the pipeline. It is already the best in the breed. Even in areas where the signal is weak, the Web Connect modem still manages to provide a consistent download speed between 350kbps to 500 kbps. In stronger signal areas, a speed of around 850 kbps is the norm.
