The UTStarcom CDM-8975 is a pretty basic phone, with an ingenious PTT (push-to-talk) feature button that sets it apart from other phones. Other than that it follows a simple flip phone design pattern with dual screens- external display, and the main display when you flip it open. The alphanumeric keypad, though not quite the QWERTY, is easy and comfortable.
Some of the other features the phone has are - a 1.3 megapixels camera, Bluetooth technology with stereo headsets, GPS support, direct printing, easy upgradeability, voice activated menus, great music player with external control keys, and data download capability with 1x RTT, EV-DO and Rev A.

UTStarcom CDM-8975 design
The UTStarcom CDM-8975 is an all-Black, thin flip phone style device, with the Push-to-talk feature being the most noticeable thing about the phone. The flip style means that the phone has dual display screens as in most phones that follow this style. The external display is a small 1.1 inches with a resolution of 96x 96 pixels and display for over 65,000 colors. The main display screen inside is only slightly bigger and better - measuring 2 inches with a resolution of 176x 220 pixels. The keypad is a basic alphanumeric albeit with slightly raised keys that make typing and navigation easier than lots of other phones. You also have easy music controls on the outside for changing a track, replaying, pause/play etc.
The phone has a 2.5 mm headset jack, camera dedicated keys, a few programmable easy access shortcut keys, expandable memory (Micro SD) slot, volume toggle and of course the Push-to-talk key. The phone comes with the predictive text T9 feature that predicts your words as you type them, and is TTY and Hearing aid compatible (rated M4) making it an ideal communication tool. It runs on the BREW Application Operating system for optimal performance. The phonebook has a capacity for storing up to 500 numbers and also allows you to store multiple numbers with every contact entry.
Push-to-talk feature
The Push-to-talk feature is a unique capability of the UTStarcom CDM-8975 that lets you connect to multiple users simultaneously. Once you activate the button, you can talk to people within the phone range, much like a walkie-talkie. The call remains active till it is ended. The phone has a single key that activates the feature and gets you connected to other people.
Bluetooth
The UTStarcom CDM-8975 comes with Bluetooth (version 2.0) that supports HSP, HFP, DUN and other profiles. There’s lots you can get done with it actually. You can connect to other devices like a car kit, handsfree, headset (A2DP) to stream music and talk, and use it for data transfers from your phone to other Bluetooth phones. It even supports the direct to printer feature so you can give direct commands to a Bluetooth enabled attached printer.
GPS support
The VZ Navigator on your phone makes navigating your way through the city so much easier. You get easy turn-by-turn directions to any destination, and not just directions, you can even get traffic updates, info on local restaurants, eating joints, gas stations etc so you can step out of your house with all the requisite information.
